Job Overview L M Construction Co., LLC (LMCC) is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Project Accountant to join our finance team. The Project Accountant plays a crucial role in maintaining financial accuracy on our commercial construction projects. From monitoring budgets and verifying subcontractor billings to ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, this position supports the financial health of our projects and the company as a whole. Learn more at Key Responsibilities - Understand billing terms for each assigned project as outlined in construction contracts and voucher control agreements.
- Become familiar with project budgets, committed costs, and subcontractor agreements.
- Prepare monthly project billing drafts with required backup documentation for Project Manager review and approval.
- Finalize approved billings and submit to customers in accordance with contract requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of committed costs and subcontractor balances.
- Balance project budgets and review subcontractor invoices for accuracy, including prior billings, releases, and insurance compliance.
- Communicate directly with subcontractors to obtain billing corrections, supplier releases, insurance updates, and required documentation.
- Track and log prelien notices and subcontractor payments/releases.
- Monitor and manage subcontractor retention balances and initiate final retention billing when applicable.
- Record all customer and subcontractor billings in the accounting system accurately and promptly to support monthly close.
- Manage job closeout process: reconcile purchase orders, finalize billing, balance retention accounts, and confirm all job costs.
Qualifications - 2+ years of experience in project accounting or construction finance.
- High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary coursework in accounting or finance preferred.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with construction accounting software a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal teams and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles and billing processes.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
