Job Description

This position exists to create base maps used for construction, acquiring right-of-way, and computation of earthwork volumes for new construction, maintenance, or safety updates to Minnesota’s Trunk Highway system.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operate photogrammetric digital workstations to compile planimetric maps, Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), and ortho-mosaics in compliance with MnDOT accuracy, clarity, and completeness standards—within defined project timelines.

Edit and finalize stereo-compiled map files to ensure accuracy, proper symbolization, and correct layer placement. Produce terrain files free of duplicate elements and crossing breaklines, accurately reflecting ground conditions.

Develop aero-triangulation solutions that support the creation of stereo models aligned with MnDOT map accuracy standards.

Set up stereo models to ensure elevation and feature measurements reflect true ground positions with high precision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities.

OR

One year of experience performing survey (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities; PLUS one year of experience performing roadway inspection, design, or related activities.

OR

A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

As well as:

Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
